Welcome to the 2019 Rainbow Honours where we tip our hats and reward our Rainbow Heroes, those wonderful individuals and organisations whose work does so much to further LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion.
WEDNESDAY 4 DECEMBER
It’s certainly true that we have made amazing strides and yet LGBTQ+ people still face prejudice in the workplace, in education and across social media.
Inequality comes with a price. LGBTQ+ youth are far more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to self-harm or attempt suicide, while drug and alcohol abuse is much higher than in the general population.
That’s why we believe those who put their heads above the parapet and dedicate themselves to fairness for all deserve our accolades. They are, after all, the UK's Rainbow Heroes.
The Rainbow Honours are different from any other LGBTQ awards event. We believe it's time to shine a light on those unsung heroes and sheroes: those who strive to make the workplace a better place for LGBTQ employees and those who give up their spare time to volunteer.
We'll also be saluting businesses who avoid the easy route of appealing only to the mainstream and who demonstrate their commitment to equality all year round, often in the face of intense criticism.
